COURT ISSUES SUBPOENA FOR OBAZEE, POLICE COMMISSIONER AS WITNESSES IN EMEFIELE’S $6.23M FRAUD TRIAL

Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court has ordered the appearance of two key witnesses in the ongoing trial of former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele, over alleged $6.23 million fraud.
The witnesses, Jim Obazee and Eloho Okpoziakpo, are expected to appear before the court on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.
Emefiele is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC on an amended 20-count charge involving criminal breach of trust, forgery, abuse of office, and conspiracy to obtain money by false pretence.
In a subpoena dated April 27, 2026, Justice Muazu directed the witnesses to appear in court at 9:00 a.m. and remain available throughout the proceedings until the case is concluded.
The court also instructed them to present relevant evidence, including newspaper reports relating to the controversial naira redesign policy.
According to the judge, both witnesses were part of the investigations that led to the charges against Emefiele and are expected to provide clarity on issues surrounding the policy.
The case is part of ongoing proceedings in which the former CBN governor is accused of financial misconduct involving $6.23 million.
