Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled coordinated terrorist attacks in Katsina and Zamfara States, neutralising nine suspected insurgents, including two identified kingpins, and recovering arms and ammunition during operations conducted between May 1 and May 3, 2026.
According to a statement, the operations also led to the recovery of four AK-47 rifles, nine motorcycles, mobile phones, and cash in Katsina State.
In Katsina, troops of Forward Operating Base Fudma, while on patrol along the Turare–Yantumaki Road in Dutsinma Local Government Area, engaged terrorists in a gun duel. Four insurgents were killed, while two AK-47 rifles, magazines, ammunition, motorcycles, mobile phones, and ₦153,000 were recovered.

In a separate operation in Zamfara State, troops at Forward Operating Base Bagega carried out a high-intensity operation in Anka Local Government Area, resulting in the neutralisation of seven terrorists, including two notorious kingpins identified as Anaruwa and Gomina. Anaruwa was reportedly the younger brother of a known terrorist commander, Kachalla Idi Aiki.
The first encounter on May 2 saw troops engage terrorists along the Bagega–Anka Road, forcing them to abandon motorcycles. The attackers later regrouped and launched an assault on the base, which was repelled with support from air component precision strikes.

During the exchange, three additional terrorists were killed, while troops recovered two AK-47 rifles and seven motorcycles.

A follow-up operation on May 3 led to the neutralisation of two more terrorists on motorcycles in the same area. One soldier was, however, killed during the operations.
The military confirmed that troops have since consolidated their presence in Bagega to maintain security dominance and prevent further attacks.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA reiterated its commitment to protecting citizens and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
