NPF RESPONDS TO ALLEGED ROBBERY INVOLVING MEN IN POLICE UNIFORM, ASSURES THOROUGH INVESTIGATION

The Nigeria Police Force has responded to a viral allegation circulating on social media in which an individual accused a group of armed men dressed in police uniform of robbing him at gunpoint in Lagos.
The complainant alleged that on April 22, 2026, at about 5:55 a.m., he was intercepted at Ajao Junction while on his way to work. He claimed the suspects, who arrived in an unregistered commercial bus, forcefully stopped his vehicle, ejected his colleague identified as “Comrade Chinedu,” and took control of his car.

According to the allegation, the men three of whom were said to be in police uniform and one wearing a face mask—forced him into the back seat and drove off towards Mile 2 after turning under the NAHCO Bridge. The victim further alleged that at Cele Expressway, he was compelled at gunpoint to transfer ₦200,000 to a First Bank account before the suspects fled after confirming the transaction.
The complainant also stated that he reported the incident at a police station and submitted a photograph of the alleged gang leader along with evidence of the transaction, but expressed dissatisfaction with the initial response of the authorities.
In reaction to the circulating report, the Nigeria Police Force said it is aware of the allegations and has assured the public that the matter is receiving urgent attention.
According to the Force, the complainant has been engaged and has provided relevant information and supporting details to aid investigation.

The statement added that a comprehensive review of the circumstances surrounding the incident has commenced, with authorities taking necessary steps to establish the facts and ensure appropriate action in line with existing regulations.
The police further assured that due process will be followed and the outcome of the investigation will be determined by verified findings.
