A soldier has been confirmed dead and another wounded following an ambush on troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade by suspected terrorists in the Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State.
The incident was revealed by security analyst Zagazola Makama in a post shared on his X account on Tuesday.
Citing security sources, Makama said the attack took place around 12:53 p.m. on May 4 along the SPDC–Etekuru road, where the troops had been sent to inspect a burnt Hilux vehicle.
Upon arriving at the location, the soldiers reportedly came under intense gunfire, sparking a heavy exchange with the attackers.
In the aftermath, one soldier was killed in action, while another sustained injuries. The assailants were also said to have fled with two AK-47 rifles and damaged a military vehicle.
Reinforcements were quickly dispatched to the scene, forcing the attackers to withdraw.
A subsequent search of the area uncovered two burnt vehicles and the bodies of two individuals, which were later evacuated to a hospital morgue for further investigation.
