Donald Trump on Wednesday warned Iran to accept a proposed deal to end the ongoing conflict or risk a fresh wave of intensified US airstrikes, in what marks another sharp shift in his administration’s approach.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump suggested that hostilities could cease if Tehran agrees to the terms on the table, describing the potential end of the campaign—referred to by the US as “Epic Fury”—as dependent on Iran’s cooperation.

His remarks followed a report by Axios indicating that Washington and Tehran were nearing agreement on a preliminary memorandum of understanding aimed at halting the conflict and paving the way for broader nuclear negotiations.

A day earlier, Trump had announced a temporary suspension of a US naval operation designed to escort stranded commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, citing optimism about a possible deal.

Despite the pause, he maintained that the US blockade of Iranian ports would remain in effect, even as Iran continues restrictions on the key maritime route—disruptions that have unsettled global markets and driven up fuel prices.

Trump explained that the decision to halt the operation, dubbed “Project Freedom,” shortly after its launch came following appeals from mediators, including Pakistan and other countries, noting that significant progress had been made toward a comprehensive agreement.

He added that while the blockade would stay in place, the operation would be briefly paused to allow time for negotiations to be finalised and potentially signed.
