Yusuf Buhari, son of Nigeria’s late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress House of Representatives primary for Sandamu/Daura/Mai’adua Federal Constituency in Katsina State.
He polled 6,386 votes to defeat his opponent, Auwal Daura, who scored 322 votes in the primary held on Saturday.
The result has sparked reactions within political circles across the Daura axis, where the Buhari family continues to wield significant influence.
Party officials who supervised the exercise described it as peaceful and transparent, with delegates casting their votes across Sandamu, Daura and Mai’adua local government areas.
A supervising official, Ibrahim (surname not provided), said the process reflected the will of party members in the constituency.
Yusuf Buhari’s overwhelming victory reflects the enduring political influence and goodwill associated with the Buhari name in the constituency and across the state,” Ibrahim said.
Yusuf Buhari was yet to speak on the outcome as of the time of filing this report, but supporters and APC loyalists celebrated the result shortly after it was announced.
With the victory, he is expected to represent the All Progressives Congress in the 2027 general elections for the constituency seat.
The constituency has 21,855 registered voters, while 6,837 delegates were accredited for the exercise, with 6,708 votes cast.
