The lawmaker representing Surulere I Constituency in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Desmond Elliot, has formally withdrawn from the ongoing race.
He made the announcement in a video that has gone viral on social media on Wednesday.
In the video, Elliot alleged that his supporters were repeatedly intimidated and barred from gaining access at various points during the exercise, which he said made the process unfair to his camp.
He stated that the situation in his ward, where his supporters were also reportedly blocked outside the venue, left him with no choice but to step down from the contest.
Elliot thereafter declared his withdrawal from the race, wished other participants well, and thanked his supporters for standing by him.
The Surulere I representative, who is seeking re-election under the All Progressives Congress (APC), added that the developments prompted his decision to exit the race in protest.
