Former Super Eagles captain Nwankwo Kanu has joined celebrations after his former club Arsenal F.C. clinched the English Premier League title, ending a 22-year wait for the English champions.

Arsenal’s 2025/26 Premier League triumph was confirmed on Tuesday night after title rivals Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw by AFC Bournemouth, making it mathematically impossible for the Citizens to catch the Gunners.

Mikel Arteta’s side had gone into the matchday holding a narrow advantage at the top of the table and were subsequently confirmed champions ahead of their final fixture of the season.

Arsenal will now head into their last game against Crystal Palace with a four-point cushion and are set to lift the trophy after a dominant campaign that restored them to the summit of English football for the first time since the 2003/04 season.

Kanu, who was part of Arsenal’s famous “Invincibles” squad that last won the league unbeaten in 2003/04, celebrated the achievement on social media.

“Arsenal forever. The Gunners worked so hard for this. Difficult but they fought. Very well deserved. Come on you Gunners,” he wrote on X, alongside a photo of himself holding the Premier League trophy from his playing days.

The Nigerian legend made 10 league appearances in that historic unbeaten season, contributing one goal and four assists as Arsenal completed a record-breaking campaign under Arsène Wenger.

Kanu joined Arsenal in 1999 and went on to make 197 appearances for the club, scoring 44 goals and providing 38 assists before leaving in 2004.

Following his departure from Highbury, he continued his career in the Premier League with West Bromwich Albion and later Portsmouth F.C., finishing with 273 Premier League appearances.

During his career, Kanu also won multiple major honours, including league titles with Ajax, the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Intercontinental Cup, as well as UEFA Cup success with Inter Milan.

At international level, he won Olympic gold with Nigeria at the 1996 Atlanta Games and lifted the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 1993, cementing his status as one of Africa’s most decorated footballers.
