SULE LAMIDO SAID NORTHERNERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE INSECURITY AFFECTING THE REGION

Former Sule Lamido has attributed the rising insecurity in Northern Nigeria to failed leadership and the erosion of moral values in society.
Speaking during an interview with Premier Radio Kano on Wednesday, the PDP chieftain said Northerners must accept responsibility for the worsening security challenges facing the region.
Lamido stressed the need for the North to prioritise discipline and proper upbringing among youths, warning that the neglect of these values has contributed to the current crisis.
He criticised political leaders for abandoning their duty to protect lives and property, accusing many of placing politics above governance.
According to him, politicians have played a major role in destroying the future of young people through manipulation and neglect, which has further fueled insecurity in the region.
Lamido also noted that those involved in insurgency and banditry are largely from the North itself.
“Boko Haram members and bandits are our own children; they did not come from elsewhere,” he said, adding that moral decay and poor upbringing have allowed criminal elements to thrive.
The former foreign affairs minister also supported the creation of state police, saying it could help address insecurity if officers are properly trained and disciplined.
“There is nothing wrong with state police, but there must be proper training and guidance in carrying out their responsibilities,” he stated.
Lamido further described it as troubling that Northerners now kidnap and extort fellow Northerners while leaders remain focused on politics instead of governance.
He added that justice, fairness, and responsible leadership are essential to restoring peace and stability across the region.
