RAPE ALLEGATIONS: COZA BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEMBER, OBAFEMI BANIGBE RESIGNS WITH “IMMEDIATE EFFECT”
Joseph Omoniyi
A member of the Commonwealth Of Zion Assembly, COZA Board of Trustees, Obafemi Banigbe has tendered his letter of resignation to the church.
This may be connected with the recent weight of various rape allegations against the founder and senior pastor of the church, Biodun Fatoyinbo.
Recall that Fatoyinbo also ‘stepped aside’ as the senior pastor of the Assembly about three weeks ago over same allegations.
Chief of those allegations is one by Busola, a famous photographer and wife of Nigeria’s foremost soul singer, Timi Dakolo, who alleged that Fatoyinbo raped her when she was about 17 years old and a member of his church.
On why he resigned Banigbe said, “I have not been able to function as a board member, including participating in any decision making or governance meetings focused on matters patterning to the wellbeing of the church.”
Pastor Banigbe is the first member of the church’s board to tender a public resignation from the ministry after Pastor Fatoyinbo stepped down on a leave of absence amidst immense pressure mounted on him by Nigerians.
