ABSU SUSPENDS LECTURER FOR CLAIMING KEKE RIDERS EARN MORE THAN PROFESSORS

The management of Abia State University (ABSU) has suspended a lecturer in the Department of Economics, Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences, Professor Nnamdi Nwaeze, with immediate effect.
Nwaeze reportedly made the comments in a post on his Facebook page, where he alleged that some professors at the university earn less than N400,000 monthly.
He further claimed that the combined income of some commercial tricycle operators, popularly known as Keke riders, exceeds the salaries earned by professors at the institution.
Reacting to the posts, the university management said the lecturer’s social media comments were inimical to the interests and reputation of the institution.
The suspension was contained in a statement signed by the university’s Public Relations Officer and Deputy Registrar, Chijioke Nwogu.
According to Nwogu, the university management has constituted an investigative panel to examine the circumstances surrounding the lecturer’s comments and make appropriate recommendations.
The suspension takes immediate effect pending the outcome of the investigation.
