The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, Ali Haruna, in connection with the alleged murder of a woman at a hotel in Girei Local Government Area of the state.

The incident occurred on Friday at No Vex Hotel, Girei, following a reported altercation between the suspect and the deceased.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said police operatives attached to the Girei Divisional Police Headquarters responded swiftly to a distress call about the incident.

According to him, the victim was found with severe injuries and lying in a pool of blood.

“She was immediately rushed to a medical facility where she was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty,” Nguroje said.

The police identified the suspect as Haruna, a resident of Bolori Ward in Maiduguri, Borno State, and said he had been arrested in connection with the incident.

The command said preliminary investigation showed that the suspect allegedly made statements claiming responsibility for the act, although investigators were still working to establish the circumstances and motive behind the killing.

A knife allegedly used in the commission of the offence was also recovered from the suspect and taken as an exhibit.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Kabir Hassan, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case and conduct a discreet and thorough investigation.

The command assured the public that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law, while urging residents to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information or resorting to jungle justice.

Meanwhile, an eyewitness who spoke to Weekend Punch alleged that the suspect lodged at the hotel, reportedly owned by a retired police officer, on Friday afternoon and allegedly committed the killing by about 5 p.m.

The eyewitness further claimed that the suspect allegedly confessed that the deceased was the third person he had killed in 2026.

The claim could not be independently verified, while police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death are ongoing.
