ADC ACCUSES TINUBU ADMINISTRATION OF ALLOWING CORRUPTION TO THRIVE

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the administration of President Bola Tinubu of creating an environment in which corruption has continued to thrive, alleging that the practice has enjoyed “great freedom” under the current government.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, made the allegation while explaining the ADC’s decision to describe corruption as “economic banditry.”
Abdullahi said the expression was contained in the party’s Governance Principles and Code of Ethics, popularly known as the Orange Book, which provides guidelines for ADC members and public officials elected or appointed under the party.
He explained that the party deliberately adopted the term “economic banditry” to draw public attention to the severity of corruption and the damage it inflicts on the country.
According to him, the ADC considers corruption the economic equivalent of violent banditry because of its far-reaching consequences on lives, the economy and society at large.
He said Nigerians needed to understand that corruption could be as destructive to the country as violent crime.
“But in the ADC term, while banditry is a violent act, corruption is the economic form of banditry and we must let the public know that,” he said.
Speaking on the Tinubu administration, the ADC spokesman alleged that corruption had been given significant room to operate under the current government.
He further claimed that the composition of President Tinubu’s campaign team suggested that the administration was sympathetic to individuals accused of corruption.
Abdullahi also accused the government of protecting and appointing individuals facing corruption allegations.
He said that if elected into power, the ADC would make the fight against corruption a major component of its governance agenda.
“If elected, the ADC will make the fight against corruption a major part of its governance agenda, and we are calling on Nigerians to support our efforts to challenge the Tinubu administration,” he added.
