The Kano State Police Command has rescued the Sarkin Noman Kano, Alhaji Yusif Nadabo, after thwarting an attempted kidnapping in Garun Mallam Local Government Area of the state.

The command confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on Saturday.

According to the statement, the incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on August 29, when suspected bandits invaded Garun Mallam town and began shooting into the air.

The assailants reportedly abducted Nadabo during the attack, while three residents sustained gunshot injuries.

The injured victims were identified as Yusif Nasiru, 20; Salisu Garba, 20; and Ibrahim Hassan, 20, all residents of Garun Mallam town.

The police said tactical teams, patrol officers and reinforcements from neighbouring divisions were immediately deployed after receiving a distress call.

The security operatives, supported by members of the local community, pursued the fleeing suspects, forcing them to abandon the kidnapped traditional title holder.

The police said Nadabo was subsequently rescued unhurt, while the suspects escaped from the scene.

The rescued traditional title holder and the three injured residents were taken to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for medical attention.

The command added that confidence-building patrols had been intensified in and around Garun Mallam to prevent further attacks, while a manhunt had been launched for the fleeing suspects.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the swift response of the police teams and praised residents, vigilante members and the Neighbourhood Watch Corps for their support during the rescue operation.

Bakori also urged residents to remain calm and continue providing useful information that could assist security agencies in apprehending those responsible for the attack.
