ADC DEFENDS ATIKU’S ABSENCE FROM G100 SUMMIT, SAYS PARTY FULLY REPRESENTED

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed suggestions that the absence of its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, from the G100 Summit was due to concerns over the credibility, transparency or sincerity of the process.
The party said Atiku’s absence should not be interpreted as a snub or a vote of no confidence in the summit, stressing that the ADC was fully represented at the gathering.
The ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, stated this in an interview with Vanguard on Monday.
According to Abdullahi, the party was represented at the summit, including on the panel, and therefore had no reservations about the event.
“No. It (Atiku’s absence) has nothing to do with any of those (concerns). The party was fully represented at the summit and on the panel,” he said.
He explained that the summit was primarily designed to foster cooperation among opposition political parties rather than place individual presidential candidates at the centre of the process.
“And the G100, to the best of my knowledge, is more about cooperation between parties than between candidates,” Abdullahi added.
The clarification comes amid speculation over Atiku’s absence from the summit, which brought opposition political stakeholders together ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The ADC maintained that the participation of its representatives demonstrated the party’s engagement with the summit and its objectives, urging observers not to attach political meaning to Atiku’s absence.
