ADEKUNLE GOLD THREATENS TO SUE BANK OVER UNAUTHORIZED USE OF ‘FIRST CLASS GIVEAWAY’ IN AD CAMPAIGN

By: Muftau Fatimo
Nigerian music star Adekunle Gold, popularly known as AG Baby, has voiced his frustration after a prominent bank allegedly used his viral ‘First-Class Giveaway’ initiative in an advertisement without obtaining his permission.
Adekunle Gold originally launched the giveaway to reward individuals with first-class university degrees by offering them cash prizes as a way to celebrate academic excellence.
However, the bank reportedly leveraged the trending initiative for its own marketing campaign, incorporating the concept without the artist’s consent.
The bank’s promotional message stated: “AG Baby didn’t send you a first-class gift? No worries, ALAT’s got you covered. Enjoy up to 70% off your favorite brands this weekend via eVouchers on the ALAT app – it’s no crime not to have a first-class degree.”
In reaction, Adekunle Gold called out the bank’s actions, questioning their use of his initiative and hinting at legal consequences.
He wrote: “Dear @wemabank @alat_ng, when did this start? You’ll be hearing from my people.”
