An aircraft belonging to the Nigerian Air Force has reportedly crashed in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.

Lapai TV, an online news platform in the state, shared a video of the wreckage on its Facebook page on Saturday, reporting that the jet went down near Karabonde community.

According to the outlet, the two pilots on board successfully ejected before the crash, which was said to have been caused by a mechanical fault.

The Nigerian Air Force has yet to issue an official statement confirming the incident or providing details on the condition of the pilots.

Saturday’s crash adds to a series of air mishaps involving NAF aircraft in recent years.

In 2023, a trainer aircraft crashed in Makurdi, Benue State, leaving two pilots injured. A year earlier, a fighter jet deployed against Boko Haram insurgents disappeared from radar and later crashed in Borno State.

In 2017, an Air Force aircraft crashed in Kaduna, killing a pilot instructor, while in 2015, a Dornier-228 aircraft with call sign NAF030 went down inside Ribadu Cantonment in Kaduna, claiming the lives of all seven personnel on board.

Details of the latest crash are still emerging.
