The Nigeria Police Force has announced significant compliance with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive ordering the withdrawal of police personnel from VIP escort and guard duties.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police said a special enforcement team was deployed by the Force Headquarters to monitor adherence to the presidential directive across major locations in Lagos State.
According to the statement, the monitoring exercise, which began at about 10 a.m. on December 6, 2025, covered areas including the Lekki–Ikoyi Link Bridge, the domestic wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, and other strategic points.
The police reported that no unauthorised deployment of officers for VIP escort duties was observed, and no arrests were made during the operation.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun reaffirmed the Force’s determination to fully implement the presidential order, stressing that officers previously assigned to VIP duties would be redeployed to core policing functions to strengthen national security and crime prevention efforts.
The IGP assured Nigerians that enforcement of the policy would continue nationwide “without fear or favour,” and called for public cooperation as the police work toward a more efficient and citizen-focused policing system.
