LAGOS GOV’S AIDE FAULTS SOLOMON BUCHI OVER COMMENTS ON CITY

The Lagos State Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, has criticised content creator Solomon Buchi over his recent remarks advising foreigners not to choose Lagos as their main destination when visiting Nigeria.
Buchi, in a video shared online, had argued that Lagos does not adequately reflect Nigeria’s traditional culture, urging foreign tourists to explore other cities across the country instead.
Reacting to the comments in a statement posted on X on Friday, Akosile accused the content creator of allowing what he described as bitterness towards Lagos to overshadow an opportunity to promote other Nigerian destinations.
According to the governor’s aide, activities such as nightlife, clubbing and cosmetic procedures, which Buchi criticised, contribute to Lagos’ appeal to visitors.
“Dear Solomon, you could have done a better job of marketing other parts of Nigeria without displaying your bitterness to Lagos,” Akosile said.
He added that the nightlife culture Buchi derided was among the attractions drawing visitors to the state.
“Those clubbing, BBL etc that you mentioned with derision are some of the reasons why Lagos nightlife is interesting and they’re in high demand by those who visit our beautiful city,” he said.
Akosile also took a swipe at Buchi and other commentators over the nature of their remarks, questioning what influenced their views.
“I wonder what you guys smoke before you set up your ring lights and cameras, that makes you vomit diatribes,” he said.
The governor’s aide maintained that criticism would not diminish Lagos’ status as a city of opportunities and economic possibilities.
“No matter your hateful rhetoric, Lagos will continue to get bigger, stronger and better. It is a city where dreams are realised. Ask several of your brothers from the other side,” Akosile said.
He further invited Buchi’s friends and relatives to visit Lagos during the Christmas period, saying the city would have several activities lined up
“We’re expecting to visit your families and friends in Lagos this December. Plenty of activities await you,” he added.
Buchi had earlier advised foreigners, particularly Caucasian and Chinese tourists, against making Lagos their primary destination when visiting Nigeria.
He described the city’s fast-paced lifestyle and nightlife culture as a departure from what he considered Nigeria’s authentic cultural experience.
“The only thing you can get out of Lagos is begging, clubbing, fake life, and a den of adulterers and fornicators. There is nothing there apart from all the loudness and madness,” he said.
Rather than Lagos, Buchi recommended destinations including Ibadan, Uyo, Abuja, Calabar, Jos, Taraba, Kano, Yola and Bauchi, which he said offered visitors opportunities to experience Nigerian culture, food, rural communities and traditional lifestyles.
“There are so many places in Nigeria that you can visit and have a good time,” he said, specifically describing Uyo as a serene city and highlighting Abuja, Ibadan and Calabar for their scenery, food and cultural experiences.
