NIGERIAN ARMY FREES THREE KIDNAP VICTIMS IN KATSINA

Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued three kidnapped persons during a security operation along the Dandume-Sheme Road in Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The victims were freed on Thursday, September 3, 2026, after residents alerted security agencies to the presence of suspected terrorists operating along the route.
Following the distress call, troops, working alongside personnel of the Nigeria Police, were quickly deployed to the area, according to the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja.
In a statement issued on Friday, Danja said the security forces engaged the suspected terrorists in a gun battle, forcing them to retreat into the surrounding bushes.
He explained that the troops’ superior firepower compelled the attackers to abandon the kidnapped victims and flee the area.
“Acting on the distress call, troops in collaboration with personnel of the Nigeria Police swiftly mobilised to the scene and made contact with the terrorists, overwhelming them with superior firepower,” Danja said.
He added that further exploitation of the area resulted in the rescue of the three victims and the recovery of two vehicles allegedly used by the terrorists.
According to him, the rescued victims and recovered vehicles were subsequently handed over to the Divisional Police Officer in Dandume for further necessary action.
Danja said troops had maintained an aggressive presence in the area through sustained patrols aimed at restricting the movement of terrorists and preventing further attacks along the Dandume-Sheme corridor.
He noted that the operation underscored the commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protecting lives and property within its Joint Operations Area.
The military spokesman urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities or movements to the appropriate security agencies.
“Operation FANSAN YAMMA appreciates the general public for its continuous support and urges them to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities within their localities to the nearest security outpost for prompt action,” he said.
