AIYEDATIWA FLAGS OFF N400M EDUCATION SUPPORT SCHEME FOR 13,360 ONDO STUDENTS

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has launched the 2026 bursary, scholarship and financial assistance programme for 13,360 students of Ondo State origin studying in tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
The governor approved N400 million for the scheme, which covers 11,907 bursary beneficiaries, 614 scholarship recipients, 239 Law School students, 500 medical students undergoing clinical training and 100 physically challenged students receiving financial assistance.
The programme was inaugurated on Tuesday at the Cocoa Conference Centre of the Governor’s Office in Akure, the state capital.

Aiyedatiwa described education as the foundation of sustainable development and the seed from which successful societies grow. He said his administration had continued to invest in the people, communities and future of the state as part of its “OUR EASE” development agenda.
He noted that the 2026 Budget of Economic Consolidation allocated significant resources to the education sector, including the construction and rehabilitation of 500 basic schools.
The governor also disclosed that his administration had commenced its Digital Literacy Programme, with digital tablets being distributed to students in 50 public schools.
According to him, the initiative is aimed at equipping students with the digital skills required to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven environment and ensuring that Ondo children are positioned to benefit from emerging opportunities.
Aiyedatiwa added that the government was also investing in teachers and had recently recognised outstanding students, teachers and NYSC award recipients.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, described the programme as evidence of the governor’s commitment to the educational development, welfare and empowerment of students from the state.
Ajibefun commended Aiyedatiwa for approving N400 million for the 2026 bursary, scholarship and financial assistance programme, noting that the timely release of the funds facilitated its implementation.
The commissioner further disclosed that the governor had released N633.918 million to cover the 2026 WASSCE registration fees for students in public secondary schools across the state.
He also said Aiyedatiwa had approved the immediate implementation of the Federal Government’s agreement with unions on the new salary structure in the state’s tertiary institutions.
According to Ajibefun, the governor also approved a significant increase in subvention to enable the institutions to implement the new salary structure.
