ANDY CARROLL REVEALS HE WAS SEXUALLY ASSAULTED IN 2021

Former England international Andy Carroll has revealed that he was sexually assaulted at his home in 2021.

The 37-year-old made the disclosure in his newly published autobiography, Owning It, according to BBC Sport.

Carroll, who was entitled to anonymity as a victim of sexual assault, chose to waive that protection and publicly discuss the incident.

The assault took place during his second spell with Newcastle United after a friend of his then-partner visited his home to watch a boxing match and planned to spend the night.

According to Carroll, the attack occurred while he was asleep. He said he confronted the man and forced him out of the house, later knocking him unconscious when he attempted to return.

Carroll subsequently contacted the police and broke down in tears in the arms of his children’s nanny.

The man was later convicted of sexual offences, sentenced to three years in prison and placed on the sex offenders’ register.

Carroll gave evidence during the trial, describing the experience as “humiliating and embarrassing and absolutely horrendous.”

The former striker, who is now a player and co-owner of non-league club Dagenham & Redbridge, said he decided to disclose the incident in his autobiography at the last minute after discussing it extensively with his girlfriend, Lou Teasdale.

Carroll said the assault had a lasting impact on his life, including his football career.

He explained that he thought about the incident every day and struggled to concentrate on other aspects of his life, adding that the trauma had not completely disappeared.

Carroll earned nine caps for England and also featured in the Premier League for Liverpool and West Ham United.
