ANTHONY JOSHUA, TYSON FURY SET FOR DECEMBER 11 HEAVYWEIGHT SHOWDOWN

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are set to face each other in a highly anticipated all-British heavyweight clash at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on December 11.

According to BBC Sport, the long-awaited bout will bring together two of Britain’s biggest heavyweight names after both fighters secured victories in their respective comeback fights in July.

Fury, 37, stopped 46-year-old Mariusz Wach in the seventh round in Pattaya, Thailand. The bout was held in front of around 1,500 spectators and was not televised.

Joshua, 36, also secured a stoppage victory in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, after recovering from two first-round knockdowns against Albanian heavyweight Kristian Prenga before ending the contest in the second round.

The fight marked Joshua’s first appearance since he survived a car crash in Nigeria that claimed the lives of his close friends Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele.

Following his victory, Joshua and his promoter Eddie Hearn had expressed a preference for the fight to be staged at Wembley Stadium.

However, Joshua’s agreement with the Saudi organisers financing the event required the contest to take place in Britain, while moving it to the United States would have required a renegotiation of the deal.

Hearn has described the Fury bout as a major fight in Joshua’s career, stressing the significance of victory for the former world champion.

The December 11 clash is expected to end years of negotiations and speculation surrounding a potential meeting between the two British heavyweights.
