BASHIR AHMAD: KWANKWASO HAS MORE POLITICAL EXPERIENCE THAN PETER OBI

Former media aide to late President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has said the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has a longer and more distinguished political career than the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Ahmad argued that the political relationship between the two politicians should be viewed as one of equals rather than that of a principal and subordinate.
He made the remarks in a post on X, where he described Kwankwaso’s decision to serve as Obi’s running mate as a demonstration of political humility.
According to Ahmad, Kwankwaso had already established a political career at the national level before Obi ventured into national politics.
He noted that Kwankwaso served as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, completed two terms as Governor of Kano State and also served as a minister in the Federal Government.
Ahmad maintained that these political experiences gave Kwankwaso a longer political résumé than Obi, who previously served as governor of Anambra State.
He wrote: “To be entirely candid, the political dynamic between Rabiu Kwankwaso and Peter Obi ought to be characterised as one of collegiality between peers, rather than a hierarchy of principal and subordinate.
“If we are assessing political experience, Sen. Kwankwaso probably has a longer and more impressive political background than Peter Obi. The choice to assume a deputy role beneath Obi ought to be interpreted as a testament to political modesty.”
He further argued that Kwankwaso’s previous positions in government demonstrated his extensive political experience before Obi’s emergence on the national political scene.
