The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested five suspects over separate cases of alleged rape, child defilement and sodomy involving children aged between four and 17 across the state.
The suspects, aged between 18 and 44, were apprehended in connection with reported sexual assaults involving four girls and a 13-year-old boy.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
Habib said the first incident was reported on November 2, 2026, when a father informed the police that his eight-year-old daughter had allegedly been sexually assaulted two days earlier at Disina Village in Yana Local Government Area.
He said police operatives immediately visited the scene, ensured the victim received medical attention at General Hospital, Yana, and arrested a 44-year-old suspect, identified as Shawilu Liman.
The police spokesperson disclosed that another case was reported on October 20 involving a four-year-old girl who was allegedly lured and sexually assaulted at Tudun Gambo in Alkaleri Local Government Area.
According to him, the victim was taken to Tudun Gambo Health Care Centre for medical examination and treatment, while an 18-year-old suspect, Zakariya Auwal, was arrested.
Habib further stated that on November 4, a family reported the alleged sexual assault of their six-year-old daughter after she was reportedly lured to a farm at Gwaram Village in Misau Local Government Area.
He said the child was taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Misau, for medical examination, while a 19-year-old suspect, Idris Sani, was arrested.
The police spokesperson also disclosed that another incident involving a 13-year-old boy was reported on November 5 at Atawari Village in Gadau District.
He said the boy was allegedly lured into a room and sexually assaulted through unnatural means.
The victim was subsequently taken to General Hospital, Azare, for medical examination, while a 40-year-old suspect, Mansur Sha’aibu, from Gaya Local Government Area of Kano State, was arrested.
In another incident, Habib said a father reported on November 3 that his 17-year-old daughter had allegedly been raped in a bush at Dangara Village in Toro Local Government Area while tending to cattle.
A 25-year-old suspect, Michael Soja, from the village, was arrested, while both the suspect and the victim were taken to General Hospital, Toro, for medical examination.
The PPRO confirmed that all five suspects remained in police custody and would be charged to court after investigations were concluded.
He added that the victims had received medical attention, while the command was collaborating with relevant stakeholders to provide them with psychosocial support and protection.
Reacting to the incidents, the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the alleged offences, describing them as wicked, inhuman and a betrayal of the trust children place in adults.
Aliyu stressed that the command would ensure that all reported cases were thoroughly investigated and that those found culpable faced the full weight of the law.
He urged parents, guardians, teachers, religious and community leaders to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station.
The commissioner also encouraged parents and guardians to listen to children and take their complaints seriously whenever they report abuse, noting that early reporting helps preserve vital evidence and protect victims.
He reaffirmed the command’s zero-tolerance stance on sexual and gender-based violence, particularly offences committed against children, assuring residents of continued efforts to make homes, schools and communities safer.
