The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested four suspects over a farmers-herders clash in Guda Village, Ningi Local Government Area, which claimed one life and led to the burning of several houses.

The deceased, identified as 40-year-old Usman Jibrin, was one of the farmers injured during the September 23, 2026, clash. He reportedly died while receiving treatment at a hospital.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, stating that the violence erupted after farmers discovered cattle belonging to a herder grazing on and destroying their crops.

According to the statement, three farmers from Guda Village had gone to their farms on Guda Hill at about 7:40 a.m. when they found the cattle grazing on their crops.

The farmers reportedly chased the cattle to the herders’ settlement, where an argument broke out and escalated into a fight, leaving the three farmers injured.

The police spokesman said some youths from Guda Village subsequently mobilised in retaliation and set fire to houses in the herders’ settlement.

He added that operatives from the Ningi Divisional Police Headquarters responded to the incident, restored normalcy and evacuated the injured to the General Hospital, Ningi, for medical attention.

However, one of the injured farmers later died while receiving treatment.

Habib said the police arrested four suspects on October 8 following intelligence-led operations.

The suspects were arrested in connection with alleged criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, mischief by fire and culpable homicide.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for a thorough and discreet investigation, the statement added.
