BENUE GOVERNOR APPOINTS ACTING VICE-CHANCELLOR FOR STATE UNIVERSITY
Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has approved the appointment of Professor Emmanuel Ayangarumun Kenen as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the state-owned Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi (formerly known as Benue State University).
The appointment, announced on Monday, takes immediate effect and is expected to last for a maximum of six months pending the appointment of a substantive Vice-Chancellor.
Governor Alia, who is also the Visitor to the university, said the decision was in line with the law establishing the institution and aimed at ensuring continuity and stability in its academic and administrative operations.
He congratulated Prof. Kenen on his appointment and urged him to bring his wealth of experience in academia and administration to bear in repositioning the institution for greater academic excellence.
“You are expected to uphold the values of discipline, innovation, transparency, and accountability that will sustain the university’s vision as a centre of learning and character development,” the governor said.
Alia reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving tertiary education across Benue State, emphasizing his focus on enhancing infrastructure, promoting research, and improving staff welfare.
He also called on the university community to cooperate with the new acting Vice-Chancellor to ensure a smooth transition and maintain the peace and academic standards for which the institution is known.
Prof. Kenen, who hails from the state, is a seasoned academic and administrator with years of teaching and leadership experience. He has previously served in various academic and management capacities within the university system.
The appointment of Prof. Kenen follows the expiration of the tenure of the former Vice-Chancellor, paving the way for new leadership to guide the university through its next phase of growth and reform.
