BORNO: TROOPS ARREST SUSPECTED FOREIGN TERRORIST FIGHTER, ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT DURING OPERATION HADIN KAI

Troops of Sector 4 of Operation HADIN KAI have arrested a suspected foreign terrorist fighter and an alleged illegal immigrant during a security operation in Lassa, Dille General Area of Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
The operation was conducted by personnel of the 115 Task Force Battalion at about 11:48 a.m. on July 19, 2026, as part of ongoing intelligence-led counter-terrorism operations in the North-East.
During the raid, troops apprehended Musa Fashir, a 32-year-old Sudanese national suspected of being a foreign terrorist fighter and collaborator. Preliminary intelligence, according to the military, suggests the suspect has links with terrorist groups operating in the region, raising concerns over the involvement of foreign actors in the insurgency.
The troops also arrested Mary Florence, 36, who claimed to be an illegal immigrant from the Republic of Ghana. Military authorities said the circumstances surrounding her presence in the area, as well as the authenticity of her claims, are being investigated.
Both suspects are currently in military custody, where they are undergoing profiling and interrogation to verify their identities, determine the extent of their activities, and establish any possible connections to terrorist organisations or transnational criminal networks.
The military said the arrests underscore the effectiveness of Operation HADIN KAI’s intelligence-driven operations and the vigilance of its troops in disrupting the activities of terrorists and their collaborators.
It added that the operation reflects the theatre command’s commitment to dismantling terrorist logistics, financing and support networks, preventing the infiltration of foreign fighters, and improving security across the North-East.
Operation HADIN KAI also urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information, stressing that public cooperation remains vital to restoring lasting peace, security and stability in the region.
