BREAKING: POLICE TEARGAS PROTESTING PENSIONERS AT LAGOS HOUSE

Pensioners under the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) and the Contributory Pension Scheme have protested at the Lagos House in Ikeja, demanding the implementation of approved pension increases and wage awards.
The retirees also called on the Lagos State Government to settle outstanding pension arrears and other benefits they claimed were owed to them.
The pensioners gathered at the government premises to press their demands and seek urgent intervention from the state government over issues affecting their welfare.
The protest was, however, disrupted when police officers reportedly fired tear gas at the demonstrators, forcing some of the pensioners to flee the area.
The incident heightened tension at the scene as the retirees condemned the use of force against them while insisting on the payment of their outstanding entitlements.
The pensioners maintained that their demands included the implementation of approved pension increases, payment of arrears and other benefits due to them.
The media reports that the retirees had earlier issued August 31 as a deadline for the payment of their outstanding pension enhancement and wage award.
