The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has identified two suspected cases of Ebola disease in Nigeria’s North-East region, with both individuals isolated as health authorities begin investigations and laboratory testing.
The agency disclosed this in an update posted on its X handle on Saturday, saying contact identification and listing were ongoing while samples from the suspected cases were being subjected to laboratory tests.
However, the NCDC clarified that the classification of the individuals as suspected cases did not mean they had tested positive for the disease, stressing that confirmation would depend on laboratory results.
“Being classified as suspected cases does not mean they are confirmed Ebola cases; confirmation is subject to laboratory results,” the agency stated.
The NCDC advised members of the public to maintain good hand hygiene, practise enhanced sanitation and follow preventive guidance issued by public health authorities.
It added that further updates would be provided as verified information became available.
