The Ndokwa West Local Government Council of Delta State has announced a 12-hour daily curfew in the Utagba-Ogbe (Kwale) community from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. following growing security concerns in the area.
The measure is aimed at protecting lives and property amid rising concerns over public safety, including reported cases of robbery and kidnapping for ransom in communities across the state.
The decision was reached at a security meeting convened by the council’s security committee to assess the prevailing security situation and identify measures to address the threats.
The committee also resolved to extend the curfew across the entire Utagba-Ogbe Kingdom to prevent potential crises and maintain peace and order.
Speaking on the development, the Secretary of Ndokwa West Local Government Area, Chief Sunday Enu, urged residents to comply with the directive in the interest of peace and stability.
“This is a necessary step to address the current security challenges. The council is working closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of our people,” he said.
However, the Delta State Police Command said it was unaware of the reported curfew.
When contacted, the command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, said the police had not been informed of the development.
“The state Police Command is not aware of any curfew,” Edafe stated.
