Nigeria’s Super Falcons have advanced to the third round of the 2028 Olympic Games qualifiers after recording a convincing 5-0 victory over Comoros in the second leg of their second-round tie in Ikenne on Tuesday.

The 10-time African champions progressed with a commanding 7-0 aggregate victory, having secured a 2-0 win in the first leg.

However, Nigeria suffered an early setback when captain Rasheedat Ajibade was forced off in the 23rd minute following a collision with a Comoros defender. She was replaced by China-based forward Folashade Ijamilusi.

Despite dominating proceedings, the Super Falcons had to wait until the 41st minute to open the scoring, with Uchenna Kanu capitalising on a goalkeeping error before setting up Toni Payne, who calmly converted the opportunity.

Kanu extended Nigeria’s advantage shortly after the restart, further strengthening the hosts’ control of the encounter.

Payne completed her brace in the 61st minute, finishing off a well-worked move after substitute Blessing Okpe created the opportunity.

Five minutes later, Kanu scored her second goal of the match with a well-placed header to make it 4-0, underlining Nigeria’s superiority.

Al-Hilal midfielder Christy Ucheibe completed the rout in the 70th minute, converting a penalty to seal the emphatic 5-0 victory.

The Super Falcons will now shift their attention to the third qualifying round, scheduled to take place from February 23 to March 6, 2027.

Nigeria will face either Morocco or the Democratic Republic of Congo in the next round as they continue their quest to secure a place at the 2028 Olympic Games.
