The Ebonyi State Police Command has arraigned three suspects in connection with the recent mob attack on a woman at the International Market in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.

The suspects, identified as Nwokedi Charles, Ekwunife Chidubem, and Okpala Chiamaka, were charged to court following the conclusion of preliminary investigations into the incident.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Ebonyi State Command, Joshua Ukandu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, Hope Okafor, condemned the attack, describing it as barbaric, and immediately directed a thorough, diligent and impartial investigation into the incident.

The command said a total of 13 suspects were initially arrested after the victim was allegedly assaulted by a mob over accusations that she had abducted three children.

Following preliminary investigations, the police identified the three suspects as principal actors in the attack and subsequently arraigned them before the court.

The command reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against jungle justice and all forms of self-help, stressing that no individual has the right to take the law into their own hands.

It urged members of the public to report suspected criminals to the police and other relevant security agencies instead of resorting to mob action.

The police further warned that anyone found participating in jungle justice or any unlawful act of violence would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
