The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has successfully extinguished a fire outbreak involving a five-million-litre Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), popularly known as diesel, storage tank at the Bono Energy Terminal within the Ibru Jetty Complex in Olodi Apapa, Lagos.

The incident occurred along the Apapa–Oworonshoki Expressway near Coconut Bus Stop and was contained before it could spread to adjoining fuel storage facilities.

The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday.

According to the statement, the emergency was reported at 12:04 p.m. on Friday, July 3, 2026, prompting the immediate deployment of firefighters from the Ajegunle, Sari Iganmu and Isolo Fire Stations.

The emergency teams arrived at the scene by 12:16 p.m. and, in collaboration with emergency response teams from neighbouring oil and gas facilities, mounted coordinated firefighting operations that brought the blaze under control.

The agency said the fire was completely extinguished by 1:54 p.m., preventing it from spreading to nearby storage tanks and other critical infrastructure.

It added that the swift response significantly minimised potential damage and losses.

The fire service confirmed that no casualties were recorded in the incident.

It noted that the cause of the fire has yet to be determined and is currently under investigation.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service also commended the efforts of all emergency responders and stakeholders whose collaboration ensured the successful containment of the blaze.
