Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has appointed Kasimu Otono as the new Special Adviser on Oil and Gas after suspending his predecessor, Felix Isere.
The appointment was confirmed on Friday in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ikhilor.
According to the statement, Otono’s appointment takes effect immediately and comes after the suspension of Felix Isere over allegations of unauthorized fundraising on behalf of the state government.
The allegations are linked to the upcoming Oil and Gas Summit scheduled for August 7 in Benin City.
The statement read in part: “It is hereby announced for the information of the general public that the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the appointment of Barrister Kasimu Otono as Special Adviser (Oil and Gas) to the Governor.”
Otono, a lawyer by training and an accomplished entrepreneur, is recognised for his contributions to legal practice, real estate, philanthropy, and grassroots mobilisation. He is also a member of both the Nigerian Bar Association and the International Bar Association.
