PETER OBI SLAMS FG OVER POLITICAL HONOURS
BY OWOLABI OLUWADARA
The presidential candidate representing the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has expressed disapproval of the Federal Government’s practice of bestowing national honours upon politicians.
Obi, who addressed the audience on Thursday in Abuja during the public launch of “The Chronicles of a Legend,” a biography of the business magnate and philanthropist, Gabriel Igbinedion, advocated for a reform in the manner in which these esteemed national awards are conferred.
He stated, “The Grand Commander of the Federal Republic, GCFR, and Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger, GCON, ought to be awarded to entrepreneurs and productive individuals, rather than politicians.
“We must alter the way we recognize and honour individuals. ”
The former Governor of Anambra State praised Igbinedion’s contributions to aviation, education, and the preservation of Nigeria’s cultural heritage, insisting that achievers like him deserve more celebration and recognition from the nation.
