Socio-political commentator, Isaac Fayose, has appealed to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to step down from the 2027 presidential race in favour of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Peter Obi.
Fayose argued that Obi enjoys stronger support across the South-South, South-East and North-Central regions than other presidential contenders, insisting that opposition parties must unite to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He made the appeal in a video shared on his official Facebook page on Sunday, where he described opposition unity as necessary to rescue the country.
Acknowledging Atiku and Makinde as influential political figures, Fayose expressed confidence that a joint effort involving both politicians and Obi would guarantee President Bola Tinubu’s defeat in the 2027 election.
He cited Obi’s growing popularity in the South-South, particularly in Delta, Edo, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states, while describing the South-East as a stronghold for the former Anambra State governor.
Fayose also suggested that the North-East could favour the opposition due to the influence of former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
He said, “The South-South is a no-go area for them. Peter Obi is doing well in the region. You can see what happened in Delta, Edo, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River. We are doing so well.
“The South-East is also our own. Aside from that, South-South, South-East and North-Central are looking very good for us.
“I beg Atiku to step down for Peter Obi. Let Obi win and be our godfather.
“Atiku, make a sacrifice for your country, and Seyi Makinde, please let us work together. Nigeria needs our deliverance, and we all need to play our role.”
He added that opposition leaders must put aside their individual presidential ambitions and work together, expressing optimism that a united front could remove Tinubu from Aso Rock on election day.
