A fire outbreak has destroyed four vehicles and a container at a mechanic workshop located on Togunde Street in the Akingbade area along Old Ife Road, within Egbeda Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The incident occurred at about 9:16 p.m. on Saturday, according to a statement issued on Sunday by the Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Services Agency, Moroof Akinwande.

Akinwande, who also chairs the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, said preliminary investigations indicated that the blaze was triggered by sparks from an engine compartment.

He noted that while no lives were lost, four vehicles and a container were completely destroyed in the fire.

According to the statement, the agency received a distress call from a resident, identified as Mr Damola, reporting the incident at the mechanic workshop.

Firefighters led by Chief Fire Superintendent Adekola were immediately deployed to the scene, where they found the affected vehicles and container engulfed in flames, with thick smoke billowing from the area.

The fire was quickly brought under control, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings and properties.

Akinwande said the operation was jointly carried out by personnel of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency and the Federal Fire Service, Ibadan Command.

He urged residents and business owners to prioritise fire safety measures, including the installation of fire extinguishers in workshops and vehicles, to help contain emergencies before they escalate.

The incident adds to a series of fire outbreaks recorded in Ibadan in recent years, including fires that destroyed multiple shops at Ogundipe Market and near the Sango Police Divisional Headquarters in 2025.
