A professor in the Department of Veterinary Surgery and Theriogenology at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has pledged a ₦1 million cash prize for the best graduating student in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

The initiative aims to promote academic excellence, inspire healthy competition, and encourage commitment to professional standards among veterinary students.

According to the professor, the annual award will recognise the student with the highest overall academic performance in the faculty, while also motivating others to strive for excellence in their studies and clinical practice.

The award aligns with efforts by the university to strengthen veterinary education and produce world-class graduates who can contribute to animal health, food security, and public health in Nigeria.

Members of the university community have lauded the gesture, describing it as a timely intervention that will not only reward hard work but also foster greater interest in the veterinary profession.

The announcement comes shortly after the induction of 41 new veterinary doctors by the Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN) at FUNAAB — a milestone that highlights the university’s growing reputation for producing competent and dedicated professionals in animal care and research.

Further details on the award’s selection criteria and implementation are expected to be released by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in the coming weeks.
