FUNAAB STUDENTS DEMAND UPDATE ON ABDUCTED CORPS MEMBERS

The Students’ Union Government of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State, has called for clear and verifiable information on the status of National Youth Service Corps members abducted in Kogi State.
The FUNAAB SUG made the demand in a statement posted on X on Monday, expressing concern over conflicting reports surrounding the reported rescue of some of the victims.
The union said while it welcomed efforts by security agencies to secure the release of the abducted corps members, authorities must provide concrete details confirming the identities and number of those rescued.
According to the SUG, the Kogi State Police Command reported that 11 victims had been rescued, while security operatives continued efforts to locate those allegedly still in captivity.
“However, families of some of the victims continue to raise concerns over the status of their loved ones,” the union stated.
The students’ body also cited reports that kidnappers were demanding N20m for each victim allegedly still being held, according to information from relatives.
One of the abducted corps members, identified as Adedolapo, was said to be a FUNAAB graduate from the College of Animal Resources Management and Animal Production.
The union called for confirmation of the reported rescue, including the names and number of victims released and evidence that they had safely regained their freedom.
“If the 11 victims reported as rescued have indeed been safely released, we need clear confirmation. We need to see them. We need to know their names, their actual number, and receive verifiable evidence of their safe return,” the SUG said.
It urged relevant authorities and media organisations to thoroughly verify the situation and provide accurate updates on the status of every victim.
The union said it would continue to amplify the concerns of affected families and demand answers until all the victims were safely reunited with their loved ones.
“We need clarity. We need answers. We need our people safely back home,” it said.
The call came amid conflicting accounts from authorities and relatives of the abducted corps members.
The sister of one of the victims, identified as Chidinma, had earlier disputed reports of the rescue, insisting that her sister remained missing.
She appealed to the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the victims, saying the families were struggling with ransom demands from the kidnappers.
According to her, her sister and other corps members were abducted while travelling from Bayelsa State to Abuja after completing their three-week NYSC orientation camp.
Meanwhile, the Kogi State Police Command confirmed the abduction and announced that 11 victims had been rescued.
The victims were reportedly abducted along the Aloma–Egane Expressway in Ofu Local Government Area of the state after armed men blocked two buses travelling in opposite directions.
The police said a joint security operation led to the rescue of the victims, including the drivers of the two buses, while efforts continued to locate any remaining abductees and apprehend the perpetrators.
