The Benue State Government has announced the grand finale of activities marking the state’s Golden Jubilee celebrations, with a series of events scheduled to hold in Makurdi this weekend.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Tersoo Kula, the government said the week-long commemoration of Benue State’s 50th anniversary commenced earlier in the week under the leadership of Governor Hyacinth Alia.
According to the statement, the celebrations will reach their peak on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the IBB Square in Makurdi, where residents and visitors will be treated to cultural displays, ceremonial parades and reflections on the state’s five decades of existence.
The government stated that the event would showcase Benue’s rich cultural heritage and diversity while recognising its role as one of Nigeria’s foremost agricultural hubs and an influential player in the nation’s political landscape.
Activities will continue on Sunday, June 28, with a combined celebration of Benue State’s Golden Jubilee, Governor Alia’s third year in office and his 60th birthday anniversary.
As part of the programme, an Interdenominational Thanksgiving Service is scheduled to hold at the IBB Square from 9:00 a.m. to commemorate the significant milestones.
The statement further noted that since assuming office, Governor Alia’s administration has pursued the Benue First agenda, focusing on infrastructure development, civil service reforms, economic growth and human capital advancement.
The state government called on residents and other stakeholders to participate in the celebrations as Benue marks 50 years of statehood, reflects on its achievements and charts a course for a brighter future.
