Veteran Nollywood actress, Moji Afolayan, has finally opened up about her sudden disappearance from the screen for over a decade.
According to the media, her long absence sparked concern among fans and netizens, who were worried about her well-being and whereabouts.
In a recent interview with the media, Moji Afolayan revealed that she was blacklisted by film marketers after she refused to give in to their sexual advances.
The actress also disclosed that many married actresses engage in sexual favors to secure movie roles.
“Back then, marketers used to finance producers. But because I rejected their sexual advances, they held a meeting and collectively decided to stop offering me roles,” she said.
I never slept with any of them—I couldn’t compromise my values just to appear in films. That’s my principle. I know many of them will watch this interview. Some of those involved would even take their husbands along, have them wait outside, and then go in to meet with marketers. I’m revealing their secrets now.
These marketers were the ones who made them stars; their faces were on every poster. But I thank God I held onto my dignity. That’s what I’m enjoying today. I was denied roles because I refused to offer my body.
Yes, it affected my income and fame, but I value my body more than anything else—and my husband understands that.
Now, the tables have turned. With the rise of social media, we no longer need marketers. We can release our movies directly on YouTube, she added.
