The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old barber, Emmanuel Olatonok, over the alleged stabbing of a 32-year-old man, Ibrahim Shago, to death in Dutse metropolis.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, confirmed the arrest in a statement made available to journalists in Dutse on Friday.
Adam said the suspect was arrested over alleged culpable homicide following the incident, which occurred on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at about 5:45 pm.
He said Olatonok, who works as a barber at Moonlight Hotel in the Rafin Sanyi area of Dutse, allegedly stabbed Shago, a resident of Karnaya town, in the neck with a knife.
According to the police spokesman, the incident followed an argument between the suspect and the victim.
He added that the suspect was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
“The victim was rushed to hospital where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor,” Adam said.
He disclosed that some youths gathered at the scene after the incident and attempted to vandalise the hotel.
However, police operatives from the Dutse Division reportedly arrived promptly and brought the situation under control, preventing further escalation and damage to property.
Adam said the suspect was currently in police custody, adding that a thorough investigation into the incident was ongoing.
He said the suspect would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
The police spokesman also quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijjani Murtala, as condemning the resort to violence in resolving disputes.
Murtala urged members of the public to remain calm, law-abiding and peaceful, cautioning against taking the law into their own hands.
He advised residents to report grievances to the appropriate authorities for lawful resolution.
