KADUNA MOB KILLING: AUTHORITIES CONTINUE HUNT FOR REMAINING SUSPECTS

The Kaduna State Police Command has brought 17 more suspects before the court over the mob killing of a woman in Maraban Jos, located in Igabi Local Government Area.

The command also revealed that 33 other suspects have been formally charged in connection with the incident, while 30 individuals previously arrested have been released after investigations found no evidence linking them to the crime.

This was disclosed on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, who said the latest group of suspects was arraigned on June 25, 2026, following preliminary investigations.

According to the statement, “On June 25, 2026, an additional 17 suspects were arraigned before a competent court in relation to the incident.

“Following the completion of preliminary investigations, 33 other suspects have been charged with criminal conspiracy and unlawful assembly.

“Meanwhile, 30 persons earlier taken into custody were found not to have participated in the offence and have therefore been released unconditionally.”

The police said efforts were ongoing to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in the mob action, stressing that anyone found culpable would face prosecution.

Commissioner of Police Muhammad Rabiu reiterated the command’s resolve to ensure justice for the victim while sustaining peace and security across the state.

“The Commissioner of Police assures residents that the command remains committed to securing justice for the deceased and preserving law and order throughout Kaduna State.

“He also appeals to members of the public to remain peaceful, law-abiding and continue providing useful information that may assist the ongoing investigation,” Hassan stated.

The incident, which occurred in Maraban Jos, drew widespread condemnation from security agencies, civil society groups and community leaders, who described the killing as a troubling example of mob justice. Police said investigations are still ongoing.
