KATSINA UNITED PLAYER OZOH CHINEDU DIES AFTER MEDICAL EMERGENCY DURING FRIENDLY

Katsina United Football Club has announced the death of its newly signed player, Ozoh Chinedu, following a medical emergency during a pre-season friendly match against Niger Tornadoes FC on Tuesday.
The match was played at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina as both clubs continued preparations for the upcoming football season.
The club disclosed Chinedu’s death in a statement titled, “Sad News: Katsina United Player Ozoh Chinedu Dies During Pre-Season Friendly,” posted by its Media Directorate on Facebook on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the player developed a medical emergency during the encounter and was immediately attended to before being rushed to K-Dara Specialist Hospital in Katsina for urgent medical treatment.
Despite efforts by medical personnel to save his life, Chinedu reportedly died in the early hours of Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
“The football community in Katsina State and beyond has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of Ozoh, a newly signed player of Katsina United Football Club and former Kano Pillars FC player,” the club stated.
The club said the death came as a major shock to his teammates, coaches, management, supporters and the wider football community, particularly as he had recently joined Katsina United and was preparing for the new season.
Chinedu previously played for Kano Pillars FC before making the move to Katsina United, where he was expected to feature in the club’s campaign for the forthcoming season.
The club noted that the circumstances surrounding his sudden death had not yet been fully established, adding that further details were expected from the club, medical authorities or his family.
Katsina United expressed condolences to the deceased player’s family and prayed for strength for his teammates, friends, supporters and the wider football community.
“May God grant his family, teammates, friends, Katsina United FC and the entire football community the strength to bear this painful loss,” the club said.
