POLICE MOURN 10 OFFICERS KILLED IN KEBBI BANDIT ATTACK, VOW JUSTICE

The Nigeria Police Force has mourned 10 officers killed in the line of duty during a gun battle with suspected bandits in Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State, vowing to sustain operations to bring the fleeing attackers to justice.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, following the confirmation by the Kebbi State Police Command that 10 personnel and two civilians were killed during the encounter along the Rafin Makuku axis on Monday.
According to the Force, the clash occurred at about 9:25am when police operatives intercepted suspected bandits moving between Zamfara and Kebbi states.
The police said at least 17 suspected bandits were neutralised during the encounter, while four motorcycles belonging to the attackers were destroyed.
Iniedu said two other police personnel sustained injuries and were receiving medical attention.
“Tragically, ten Police personnel lost their lives in the encounter, while two others sustained injuries and are receiving medical attention. Two civilians also lost their lives during the engagement,” he said.
Reacting to the incident, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, expressed profound grief over the death of the officers and condoled with their families and loved ones.
Disu described the deaths as “a painful loss to the Force and the nation,” noting that the officers “paid the ultimate price while defending the people they swore to protect.”
The IGP assured the families of the deceased that their sacrifice would not be forgotten, stressing that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to honour their memory.
The remains of the fallen officers have since been conveyed to Birnin Kebbi, while the affected area has been brought under control, the Force said.
Additional personnel have also been deployed to sustain security operations in the area and pursue the fleeing members of the criminal group.
The police further assured the bereaved families and injured personnel of its continued support, vowing to sustain efforts to apprehend those responsible for the attack and bring them to justice.
