Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Marc-Andre ter Stegen as Germany’s first-choice goalkeeper ahead of the team’s upcoming Nations League matches against Serbia and the Netherlands.

The decision follows the announcement of Germany’s squad for the two fixtures, with Ter Stegen selected ahead of Jonas Urbig and Alexander Nubel.

Barcelona forward Karim Adeyemi was among the notable absentees from the squad, while Ter Stegen secured his place as the team’s preferred goalkeeper.

The 33-year-old is currently on loan at Ajax from Barcelona, where he has impressed with his performances this season.

Speaking to reporters, Klopp praised Ter Stegen’s form in Amsterdam and explained why he had been selected as Germany’s number one.

“Marc is having a fantastic season in Amsterdam, and fortunately, the other two are also having really good seasons,” Klopp said, as quoted by SPORT.

“We’re going into these matches with Marc as our number one. And this isn’t about who happens to be making the better saves at any given moment, because goalkeepers need to provide a lot of stability and confidence.”
