Edo North Senator, Adams Oshiomhole, has criticised the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, accusing him of contributing to the collapse of Nigerian industries.

Oshiomhole made the remarks on Saturday while speaking at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

He alleged that Atiku was responsible for the closure of Michelin and Dunlop companies in Nigeria, arguing that their shutdowns contributed to widespread job losses.

The senator questioned why the former vice-president was now making promises to tackle unemployment when industries that previously provided jobs to thousands of Nigerians collapsed under the administration in which he served.

“Who closed down Nigerian industries? Who closed down Michelin? Who closed down Dunlop? Who reduced Nigeria to an importer of everything from underwear to socks? It was done by the government and party which Atiku belonged to,” Oshiomhole said.

He noted that Atiku served as vice-president under former President Olusegun Obasanjo, alleging that the administration failed to prevent the companies from shutting down and leaving the country.

Oshiomhole described Michelin and Dunlop as major employers, adding that their closure resulted in thousands of workers losing their jobs.

He argued that Atiku could not now promise to create employment opportunities without addressing the circumstances surrounding the loss of existing jobs during the administration he served.
