LAGOS POLICE ARREST INFLUENCER ‘PELLER’ OVER VIRAL RECKLESS DRIVING, PROBE ATTEMPTED SUICIDE CLAIM

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained a 20-year-old social media influencer, Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, following a viral video in which he was seen driving recklessly and crashing his vehicle while live-streaming the incident.

The arrest followed the circulation of the video on Sunday, December 14, 2025, showing the suspect engaging in dangerous driving that resulted in a serious road accident, allegedly endangering his life and those of other road users.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police said Hamzat’s actions constituted a deliberate act that endangered public safety and were being investigated as an attempted suicide and reckless endangerment.

According to the Command, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a comprehensive investigation. Police authorities said the outcome of the investigation would be made public, after which the suspect would be charged before a court of competent jurisdiction in line with the law.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, used the incident to issue a stern warning to social media influencers, content creators and members of the public against using digital platforms to promote or engage in dangerous, unlawful or criminal acts.

He stressed that the Command would not tolerate acts capable of causing loss of life, public disorder or breach of peace in the state, adding that offenders would face the full weight of the law.

The Police also urged all motorists and road users to adhere strictly to traffic regulations, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to maintaining public safety and order across Lagos State.
