The Lagos State Police Command has forwarded particles recovered from an explosion at Oke Mushin to the Force Headquarters in Abuja for advanced forensic analysis, following a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonation in the area.

The incident occurred at about 6 a.m. on Monday at No. 22 Wey Street, Oke Mushin, when a gold Toyota Sienna with registration number AAA 11FX reportedly exploded as its owner attempted to start the vehicle after it was parked overnight.

Security operatives, including explosive ordnance disposal experts, were immediately deployed to the scene, cordoning off the area and collecting samples for investigation. The recovered materials were later dispatched to Abuja to determine the exact nature of the device.

Lagos State Police Commissioner, Tijani Fatai, confirmed the development, stating that preliminary findings suggest the explosion may be linked to an IED, though investigations are ongoing.

He said bomb disposal units are still analysing evidence retrieved from the scene and that a comprehensive briefing would be provided once findings are concluded.

A police source also noted that the injured driver sustained only minor injuries, adding that normal activities had resumed in the area after the initial panic.

Eyewitnesses described a loud blast that triggered confusion in the neighbourhood, with residents rushing out of their homes to assess the situation. Traders in the busy market area said the explosion damaged nearby structures, including a metal door, while debris and suspected fragments of the device were scattered around the scene.

Community members and traders reported that security agencies later recovered additional particles from both the vehicle and surrounding area, as forensic teams continue to piece together what caused the blast.

The police have assured residents that investigations are ongoing to establish the origin and motive behind the incident.
